Product idea?

Throwing spitballs. DSP Active Powered speakers. Internal digital amplification as used in the powered speakers but with input taken from BAX. Less expensive alternative to six channels of traditional amplification but with the adjustability of  the full Bryston active system. Build a small pedestal base to house the amplifiers and input signals from a BAX. Feel free tell tell me the idea is way off. Also tell me if it is plausible.

My take. That is the Bryston approach and if you have heard their active system it is impressive. Yeah its outta my price range and I don't have an appropriate room for proper stereo set up.

If you want a less expensive alternative there are other companies that build active speakers. I heard one PA type system where I work and I can tell you the sound is/was no where near in the same league as the Bryston Active system.

IMO though the quality of the source is critical for even the most expensive system to sound Hi-Fidelity. Crappy source means crappy sound which leads to listening fatigue in a short time. :smoke:

Hi

It really depends on your opinion of Digital Amplifiers and Digital Switching power supplies.

We still feel the best amplification is linear power supplies with huge power reserves and Class AB amplifiers.  So it necessitates external amplifiers.

James,
You need deep pockets to go the active route.
For many of us,  our disposable income won't permit it.

I realize the expense George but I really did not want to go half-way with the concept as there are plenty of other good products out there to choose from if you are looking for lower costs.

I guess I feel that so many times people spend money on peripheral products and components that just provide sideways performance moves whereas going with a state of the art active system is money spent in the correct way if performance and accuracy improvements is the goal.
