My current OB experiment

Cross-posting across forums, mostly due to vanity.

It started with this idea, which I had no way to build until a friend set up a CNC:

The CNC bits turned out pretty good. My router and finish work, not so much. But still, I like the way it's looking:

Measurements aren't that great yet.

I was hoping the Neo3's 7.5kHz notch would be reduced further. There's a bit of a gap between the sides of the tweeter and the baffle, and I'll try filling that with some kind of foam gasket. Maybe that's causing it to act like a 'nude' driver at higher frequencies.

Normalized polar response, tweeter and midrange:

The on-axis 7.5kHz null shows up as an off-axis flare.

Drivers are BG Neo3 (non-PDR), 18Sound 6ND430, AE OB12

Very interesting! Please keep us (me?) updated... what is the (horizontal) spacing between the two baffles - it looks quite high in the pictures.

The upper baffle is about 3" behind the lower one. Not much to update yet, really. I've got both speakers assembled and did some quick XO work in LspCAD. This is the response right now:

I have a lot of crossover tweaking ahead of me, as well as experimenting with the tweeter polar response using dowels / half-rounds / felt / etc. to adjust the effective baffle dimensions.
