Acapella Triolon Excalibur and Bryston......
« on: 23 Jul 2010, 11:17 pm »
Just a report on how the system is coming together...we now have the 28BSST2 driving the woofer towers directly, all internal xovers are removed. A second pair of 28BSST2 are driving the main horn tower, and the 7BSST2 pair are driving the Ion tweeters (any clean small amp would do there, but...we have it, and the customer would not consider anything less..sooo).

I have to say again, while many have problems with the idea that a "lowly" Bryston is driving  $200k speakers, I use them because...well, simply put, the 28 and 7 series amps are among the best I have used, by any criteria.

I understand that, with passive speakers, some might not like the tonal flavor of a given combination of amp and speaker. With a passive setup one often buys on the synergy of flavors between speaker and electronics.  But with the use of high-resolution active digital crossovers, tonal adjustment is part and parcel of the setup. With that in mind, I get to see/hear what is tonal and what is an inherent problem for an amplifier. Some amps, for example, can never reach out dynamically. Many just plain have too much distortion for my taste.

But the current crop of Brystons (from the SST on) are, to me, like a chef getting to work with pure water for his soups. The Brystons have so little flavor of their own, they are so willing to be whatever I ask them to be, they have all the dynamics one could ask for, and are so pure and quiet that I can make my projects into works of sonic art.

When reviewers come over to the project they are astounded by the sound.  Then we show them the amps (previously hidden) and they often remark on why we are using "mediocre" amps. I explain that we are using the Bryston not because of price, but because it is the best product for the job. They are why we were ABLE to get the sound that astounded them!

Kudos for a very very fine product!

If I had a dollar for these idiots who trash Bryston, I'd be a zillionaire.

Me too! And they diss without knowing, well, anything about what is really going on in their system. Its the "audio as magic" thing.

I "only" have a 4B SST2, but could not agree with you more.

So... Satisfy my curiosity... Where do you work?

I work freelance. I work with, or through, Loggie Audio along with others who wish to remain nameless.
