Couldn't find a 45 either
« on: 26 Feb 2004, 08:52 pm »
I'm getting the 25 instead.  I read somewhere on here that someone saw the 25's board was just missing components for the 45's power supply and I found on Panny's website a listing of all the components.  I may just upgrade the power supply to a 45's and add a cable.
By the way I work for the company that is partially behind this remarkable bang for the buck.  Just wish I could have found one.   :(

Besides the PS the firmware on the Processor board is also different because of the different volume control method with the variable PS. Replacing both is getting a bit expensive and risky.

There are about 35-45 surface mounted components (resistors, caps and diodes), 9 large electrolytic caps, about three regulators, and a few ics difference between the 25 and 45. It takes up about a page and a half of the schematic.

Just the power supply board for a 45 is about $250.00 and you cannot buy one without an okay from a Panasonic Service center.

The best thig to do is to search for a used one on E-bay, Audiogon, or here on AC

It's funny, but I was into guns before I was into audio.  I would type in www.kimber.com and was pissed when an audio cable maker would come up

Speaking of which, I took my 9 year old daughter to shoot a .22 rifle for the first time last Saturday.  She shoots better than her older brothers.  Her first shot ever was at 10 yards with a "Chipmonk .22 rifle" with a .75" 4 power scope.  Dead center bullseye.  She then proceeded to make a 5 shot ragged hole to prove it wasn't a fluke

I had to drag her TO the range because she really didn't  want to go, then I had to drag her FROM the range because she couldn't get enough

She was pretty good at 25 yards too, but preffered to shoot at 10.

The power supplies are almost completely different between the two. The 45 uses a variable-output switching supply to reduce the amount of digital-domain attenuation necessary, whereas the 25 uses a simple fixed-output switching supply.  Upgrading is probably not an option.

With a 25, the best power supply upgrade you can do would probably be to run off batteries.  It's not as crazy as it sounds due to the efficiency of the digital output stage. I have the materials to try this, but simply haven't had the time to get to it.

I'm contemplating selling my complete gun collection for audio.  :o

Right after I shoot the neighbors' horses and dogs. :flak:

Man if I lived in the Republik of Kalifornia, I would never sell ANY guns.  As a matter of fact, I might go the other way.  You never know what the hell they are going to do out there, and tomorrow, you may not even be able to own guns.

 How CA goes, soon follows the nation.

*NOT* that I agree with that, mind you. When the votes are counted, the coastal sliver is always red and every other part of the state is blue. The problem is that the majority of the population lives in the red. You oughta get one vote for every acre of land you live on!

The Kimbers are nice, but it's getting to the point where you damn near can't buy anything else around here.  The local dealers have Kimbers stacked to the rafters, but you rarely see an Auto Ord, Springfield or even a Colt.

Oh, yeah, the topic of the post...that 45 is getting pretty scarce, too.  I'm sure hoping the replacement retains the things that apparently make the x45 *magic*, cause soon that's all you'll be able to get.

This .45 isn't too bad either :D

Funny, but true. Right next door to Kimber Kable in Ogden is an indoor pistol range. Ray gives all of his employees a free membership to it.

Ray did recieve a Kimber .45 as a Christmas gift one year.

Not a .45, but I had a nice HK USP in 9mm, Trijicons sights, etc.  I sold it a while back to finance an audio purchase.     Now that I see what they're selling for new I wish I had mine back. :banghead:

That's another hobby where the cost of mods can quickly outstrip the initial cost of the item.  I've got a Browning Hi Power that I spent more modding than the pistol cost me new. (Mag disconnect removed, throated, feed ramp polished, trigger & action job, Meprolight Tritium sights, custom stocks, the whole nine yards).

Guns!!!!  I only have two shotguns and a Marlin 17VS.  Haven't shot the .17 yet but plan to soon.  Maybe today even.  I want to get another combat/carry gun and was looking at the Beretta 9000S  (I think that is the model) in .40S&W.

My 25 should arrive today or tomorrow.  I just don't have any speakers to crank with it.

No kidding man!  It seems that 3-4 years ago, the USP's just went up by 25% or more for no apparent reason.

There's two pieces I would like to pickup this year, one is the .17rimfire
in a Ruger, and the other is a Beretta CX4 Storm in .40cal.
Hey we need a GunCircle now.
