Building System Around AZ Adagios
« on: 18 Jul 2010, 02:58 am »
Guys,

I'm thinking about buying a used five-speaker set of Acoustic Zen Adagios/Adagio Juniors.  If I go this route, can a stand-alone AVR give these babies what they need to be their best?  If so, is my current Denon AVR-1909 good enough or do I need to move up the chain or to a different brand?

I have an old(er) Panasonic DMP-BD35; would I need to upgrade that or just upgrade the AVR, assuming upgrading the AVR is even necessary?

Finally, my current HT speakers are old Infinity Overture 2/CC3/RS3.  Assuming I have average hearing for a guy in his 30s will the difference in sound quality with the Adagios and a well-matched AVR be significant on anything other than music DVDs/BDs?  I have heard the Adagios in a two-channel system and love them.  In fact, had the Ridge Street Audio Sasons not blown me away the weekend after I heard the Adagios I'd already have a pair for my two-channel rig.  I realize that for HT application that doesn't mean there will be enough information apart from dialogue to make the upgraded speakers a worthwhile investment, though.

Advice is greatly appreciated.

Your Denon should be ok. The info I found on the speakers says they are 6 ohm. +/- 2 ohms shouldn't be a problem. If they were 4 ohm speakers, I'd say upgrade the receiver or buy an external amp (not sure your receiver has pre-outs for amp connection).
