High praise once again from The Absolute Sound
« on: 3 Jul 2010, 10:57 pm »
The August 2010 issue of TAS features both the SongTower and the Van Alstine Ultravalve in a single "combined" review by Dick Olsher. Very positive stuff all the way around. Confirms what I've been hearing from my set-up( Bob Latino tube amps in my case) all along. A superb speaker design that is tube friendly (impedance-wise) and can easily be driven by tube amps in the 35-60 watt range. Congrats to Jim, Dennis and Frank.

Thanks.  See the permanent thread at the top of the main forum page.  The news stand copy still hasn't arrived as of Friday.

That comes as no surprise. I have the HT2-TL (without the RAAL :() and I have been driving them with my 60 watt tube amp since they arrived. Beautiful sound! Just today I switch them over to our new 250 watt integrated hybrid and they loved every watt.
Now I need a RAAL version

Nice job Jim and Frank. Well deserved praise.

Nothing makes me happier in the realm of audio press than to see AFFORDABLE gear get high praise!  Well deserved both for great products.  AVA has always been a great product for me.  FET-Valve, omega etc.

I think subscriptions are shipped first.  I don't think it will be on newstands for a while yet.  Most magazines like to get copies to their subscribers first.  It gives subscribers an edge.

Jim, Dennis, and the crew (and Frank) - congrats on the TAS review  :D

Jim - I was disappointed TAS didn't include a photo of your speakers.

I hate that.  A review with tiny, poor or nonexistent photos is pretty unprofessional.  Especially when you have a really attractive product that it's better to see than just describe.

That's a shame.  I had my first opportunity to see and hear them at the recent Capital Audiofest and they are absolutely beautiful.
