Actually, it's a rather simple operation.  It just a piece of plexiglas and I copied the pattern of holes from the original metal cover. However, since my amp is a dual mono I put in an extra set of holes to aid in cooling.  The retaining screws will be flared out but I need to get a special (plexiglas) drill for that. Of course I have the side and rear screws, just did not have them in when I took the picture. Now, I can not only listen to this work of art but view it also.

While you have made a modification to appeal to your aesthetic needs, from an electronic point of view, metal shielding no longer exists on top of the case. 
 
I don't know if this would have any real world effect, but it might if another component was located in proximity to the top and that particular component generated a lot of EMI or RFI.

You are absolutely correct and not having the metal shielding was, for a long time, what dissuaded me from undertaking this project.  I then decided to just try it out and see what the affect might be.  The amp has been on now for about 72 hours and to my ears, I cannot discern any different sonic effect whatsoever, negative or positive.  I can say, however, that it runs much cooler.  It does have two additional rows of vents compared to the metal top and I was ready to slap on a super quiet 12v fan if that became necessary.  Fortunately, I have nothing critical in the vicinity of the amp so perhaps that has helped.

Some people have not drilled that many holes in their lifetime!  If one had a bit of bad luck and cracked the plastic while drilling a hole, you could only hope it was on hole #1 and not hole #500!

I made the same some 6 years ago, before top cover had holes, I still has the acrylic cover and I use it eventually for demo purposes.
