Playing DSD on BDA-3
« on: 12 Apr 2016, 10:59 pm »
Hi Folks,

How are you playing DSD files on your BDA-3?
I'm going to try BitPerfect DSD Master with a Mac Mini.
Just wondering what other options are out there. Maybe using a BDP-2?

Cheers

I'm not a Mac user, but with a PC the BDA-3 accepts DSD file playback (.dsf or .dff files) with JRiver using the USB input. Via DoP up to DSD128, or native DSD up to DSD256.

I purchased my first DSD album and I'm usiing the BDP-2. A separate hard drive for my DSD files going to the USB input BDA-3. Still using AES for external and internal SSD for my flac files.
Cheers

Thanks bjski
That's exactly what I was wondering about.
It's good to hear that the BDP-2 can play DSD files via USB to the BDA-3.

Hi Folks,

Keep in mind that the 'DAC' determines what files can be played at what resolution from the BDP-2 Player.

All my files (DSD, PCM downloads and CD-rips from BOT-1) are stored on my external 2 TB USB solid state drive, played via BDP-2 to BDA-3. Created three folders, labeled DSD, WAV, and CD-RIP (All my HiRez downloads are in WAV format). I play the DSD files via my Wireworld Platinum USB cable, and my High Rez PCM and CD rips via AES/EBU (which I prefer over USB for these PCM files). Also feed HDMI from my Oppo-103 to play SACD DSD.

Tympani, you really have all of your bases covered. Thanks for the info.
So far, I've been using the USB input on the BDA-3. It's the best USB implementation I've had. I'll have to try the AES/EBU for PCM up to 192kHz for comparison.

Wow. DSD is impressive.
I'm streaming iTunes from a Synology NAS to a Mac Mini using BitPerfect and DSD Master.
This is the first time I've been able to compare HD PCM with native DSD.

I now have used my internal SSD drive to play DSD.
I also use the Wireworld platinum 7 for my USB,Bot and AES.
