First thing that came to my mind was Gauss, I don't even know if they are still around but my old band mates swore by them

What kind of material?  What kind of amp?  What kind of tone? 

I would recommend you look into Ted Weber speakers.  The Blue Dog and Silver Bell are highly regarded (under the "British Series").  Ted Weber Speakers

I suggest the famous Eminence Alpha-15A just 59 dollars at PartsExpress, I do not know any better 15inches guitar speakers for a OB guitar combo than this one Alpha.
