Lousy transition between songs ; hard drive vs original disc

Perhaps this has been discussed. I would appreciate a link to the thread if that's the case. Nothing is more of a let down than listening to a song that is in two or more parts, where the transition between songs isn't obvious on the cd, but when you burn them to the hard drive, it is obvious and it totally breaks up the flow of the song. A great example of that is Sarah Brightman's Gothica that moves into Fleurs du Mal. Is there a solution to this?

light-echo,
which software are you using to play your music?
and what is your hardware setup....Straight from the computer to DAC, or SqueezeBox, etc?

Light-Echo

I have Foobar and Mediamonkey Gold but ended up sticking with WMP because the others wouldn't populate my library. Sonically, I have to admit that even though I am a musician and an audiophile geek, I didn't hear a great deal of difference between any of these players. I am currently using my laptop through a 24/96 usb recording studio DAC and K-701's or UE Super fi 5's. But yes, straight from the computer to the DAC.

That extra info should help the PC audio gurus give you some input. I can't as I am a mac guy. Good luck.

Thanks.

I have a couple of new amps and some speakers and was trying to put together some playlists for some guests coming over to share some tunes and opinions. This was bugging me some.

Maybe this is too obvious, but is your ripping/burning software setup to have gaps?

When I rip (dbpoweramp) I get an exact copy of the CD, no unintended gaps.

Some burn software have an option to eliminate the gaps between tracks. I always set this option. Poke around the settings/options/preferences on your software's interface and you'll likely see this option. I especially like it for live recordings where the gaps are also very noticeable.

Light-Echo

It's often the things 'too obvious' that go unnoticed. Not so much in this case. Though there very well may be a setting somewhere within WMP, I cannot find it.

Light-Echo

It also seems to be an issue with MM

Maybe time to switch to EAC or dbpoweramp. Both can be setup to be gapless.

Light-Echo

It appears I jumped the gun on Media Monkey. I have it ripping gap-less at WAV. I'll have to spend some time with it and get used to the UI. Anyone have any opinions on the best ripping format - FLAC, WAV, etc.,  with audio quality being the only consideration? (Error free lossless for all disc formats).

Thx

FLAC should be fine. Ape is good to but limited hardware support.

Maybe try J. River MC15 demo and see if gapless works:
