NO harddrive - too many issues.

I voted no as well.  I'd rather the power supply of the unit didn't have to deal with it and storage capacity changes so rapidly.  Who knows, perhaps in the not too distant future we will see Blu-Ray player/recorders.  With a decent amount of disc capacity in such a scenario, as well as the ability to hook to a display and to a network, it could make a both a reasonable medium for storage as well as a user interface.

Remove the USB ports and you guys have your wish come true.   Does it matter if HDD on top, behind or inside.  It's all connected and can even be powered by USB so it really doesn't matter and it's technically the same.   I just don't want to see another box behind or on top of it.

It can be designed to be removeable and you don't have to use an internal bay.

There are too many viable HD  options. If a HD is installed then it really defeats one of the main purposes and benefits of the BDP and that is an isolation device from your Comp/whatever to your main rig.

I guess for the sake of Bryston if they could only do one of the three: 1) provide option for internal DAC, 2) provide option for internal 2.5" HDD or 3) add a 2-line display.

I would vote for Option 1, the DAC, as I think it would sell and requires the least amount of customer support.

Option 2, having a user-serviceable HDD would probably be more cumbersome to support but the value here is that there is a dedicated location for it and I don't have to look at it or worry that I'm causing more noise by placing the mobile version of the drive on top or behind the BDP.

Option 3, I suppose if there is no area or thermal budget remaining a display could be beneficial to those with small music collections or the occasional thumb drive user.

I do think my desire to have the HDD internal came about when James noted the NAS might not happen or be delayed.   I would still prefer a NAS/fileshare connection over anything else.

I'm sure James appreciates us arguing about this.. lol  I definitely want the BDP to be successful.

Hi Jim,

I think the dedicated NAS drive that the BDP-1 would "see" instantly on the network is something we would work towards going forward.

It appears to me that all the "arguing" is meant to be constructive.  I like that about this forum.

2 drives, RAID 0/1, 2.5" disks, passive cooling. Small, squarish lool. Machined case, brushed aluminum, available in black. Blue LED (just kidding). I'll consider buying one for keeping my photos too.

I agree too! But I get the distinct impression that some days it's more like "herding cats" ;)

Have a great weekend everyone.
