Hi,

We originally considered it but given the move towards high resolution digital files we felt the new BDP-1 digital player we are working on would be the better option moving forward.

HI JAMES

If universal CD players can play all formats, then the new BDP-1 should do the same...  It makes it more marketable...

The DAC's used in the BDA-1 are capable of DSD music format, so you are half-way there...

Ciao,
Luigi

Hi Luigi

The problem is we wanted the BDA-1 CD Player to be optimized for Redbook CD and the drives available for SACD are DVD drives with 'clocks' not optimized for redbook CD Playback.

Also the performance potential and the market trend is much more towards high res digital files and away from CD's.

Hi James,

You definitely won't like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD

"Most new mid-level and higher 2007 model year and later A/V processors support the HDMI 1.2 specifications DSD over HDMI feature. Most boutique manufacturers still do not support DSD."

Mhhh it applies to the BDA-1 too

This was just to tease you, here is my real opinion:

Why would I care about (yet another) DRM infested format? I do buy SACDs but only the "hybrid" type..... as to have some assurance that they won't be soon just coasters (i.e. when Sony decides to "obsolete" the format).

I very sorry Bryston do not support SACD format.
Even a hard driver reading is best than a optical reading I will no support it, because I have many CD and SACD in my library and I do not want lost all the music files in a hard disk crash/failure or any Internet virus etc...
I like to get a disk on the hands or at least a memory stick(permanent memory, not flash memory pen drive like)

As a consumer it can be maddening trying to make decisions on what to do for hi rez capability.  I bought a new Esoteric X-05 SACD player last October.  The other alternative I had it boiled down to was the BCD-1, BDA-1 and some kind of digital music player that did not have its own DAC on board to inflate the cost of the product.  I gave up trying to find such a product that was suitable and went the SACD route.  I'm very happy with the X-05 without commenting whether SACD is superior to CD and setting off a firestorm.  Then along comes the Bryston BDP-1 which was exactly what I was searching for last year.  Had it been announced I probably would have gone that way to satisfy my legacy  CD and future hi rez requirements.  But, as they say, that's water under the bridge (or is it over the dam) now.  The cost of this stuff doesn't offer me the luxury of looking back.
