How To Train Your Dragon

I saw this last week with my daughter in 3d IMAX. What a blast !!   The 3d was amazing, even better than Avatar.
The plot and animation were first rate. Check out RT , last I checked it had a 100% rating.
Two thumbs way up for this one :thumb: :thumb:

This is good to know.

I read the book with my 7 and 5 year olds, and liked it a lot (so we've read a couple of others in the series).  But when I saw the shorts for the film, I was a bit disturbed to find that the whole story seemed to have been changed.

Anyway, we almost went to see the movie last weekend.  Maybe we'll make the trip sometime in the next couple of weeks.  Thanks for the recommendations.

Yeah, this was an entertaining movie. No big plot surprises, and basically by-the-numbers, but well-executed nonetheless.

My little ones are 4 and 6 - nothing scared the other little ones?

Happy to take them to see a movie on the big screen (and god knows they are used to loud bass...), but I want to make sure I am not up all night over Easter dealing with the night terrors!

My fear, too.  I know very few made for children movies that don't have some scary parts in them.  How many scary parts are in this movie and what is an appropriate age range?

Took my kids to see the 3D version yesterday and it was FANTASTIC.  The only downside was the pretty intense volume level the theater seemed to be playing the movie at.  At first they both covered their ears, but a few minutes in all was good.

The flying scenes are absolutely breathtaking in 3D in my opinion.  The film may not be as laugh a minute as Shrek or Toy Story, but still an engaging story and my kids (4 and 7) never got fidgity during the film.  Frankly, I'd rate it as one of the best animated films I've seen in a while now and the 3D use is really subtle and not over the top like so many films seem to be.

As for scary parts, I didn't think there was anything too crazy and both of my kids slept just fine last night.  YMMV on that though......

Saw this the other day (owed a friend a flick and this was the choice). I thought it was decent all around, but didn't think it was worth the 3-D premium. It was clearly a tacked-on effect and not done with the same care as Avatar, but there were a few points where it looked cool. Some small (under 5) children in the theater got upset at times, but I don't recall anything too intense.

Took my 6 and almost-8 year old daughters to this.  All three of us absolutely loved it!  My 6 year old cried when they captured the dragon, but beyond that, they weren't too scared.  They both said this was their favorite movie ever...!

I didn't think the 3D looked tacked-on at all, and from what I've read, this was made as a 3D movie from the very beginning.

I think my wife is taking our two boys to see it again this coming weekend.  If I wasn't heading to AKFest, I'd be right there with them.

I really enjoyed this movie.  The 3D was very good and I was sitting way off-center from the screen.  Very funny and no bad language or undertones.  A great family movie and I will purchase the BR when it comes out for sure.

I agree. A really good movie, especially for the young ones.
