slow day on the VSA circle...

So thought I might as well tell you about my latest exorbitant audio purchase .  I have a pc workstation with Sonar recording capability consisting of an M-audio pci breakout box, a pair of Event 20/20 passive monitors driven by an Arcam integrated (using the pre outs) and a DH-200 that I built from a kit way back in 1978.  The DH-200 was sent to Hafler in the early 90's for cap mods and a tune up.  Anyway, the Arcam developed an intermittent left channel which appears to be nothing more than a cold solder joint somewhere on the RCA jack input board.  Long story a bit shorter, I just bought a DH-110 preamp on audiogon for $185 to replace the Arcam.  The 110 has been modded by Musical Concepts.  I thought the Arcam did a good job but this little diminutive preamp takes things to a totally different level.  Back in the good old days you just could not beat Hafler for its high performance/price ratio.  This pairing of the 110 with the DH-200 is pretty amazing.

Per Henry's request...

My combined workstations...GE laptop to the left with the two flat screens for elec. system studies and my personal desktop to the right

My personal pc with an M-audio PCI breakout box (Sonar 8.5), DH-110 preamp that drives a DH-200 which drives a pr. of Event 20/20 passive monitors...the sound is better than it has any right to be

A "new" DH-110 preamp modded by Musical Concepts...a steal for sure

My trusty DH-200 that I built from a kit back in 1978.  Last year I installed new Cardas RCAs, Cardas speaker terminals and an IEC receptacle for a detachable PC.  I have second DH-200 which I did the same upgrades to.

  Hey Gavin,
I didn't know you had been in this crazy hobby so long. :thumb: I didn't get addicted until 1987. I heard the old DCM Timewindow 3 speakers and I've been hooked ever since. I wonder who on this forum has been at it the longest. I do hope all of your systems bring you great enjoyment.

 Blessings, Bob

Hi Bob,

I bought my first system the summer of 1969...Dynaco amps...PAT-4 preamp and ST-120 amplifier/Dual TT/Shure M91E/AR 2ax speakers oh, and OCC zipwire  I had less than $400 invested and it sounded great...but I digress.

My old PAT-4 preamp and Jack are cousins of sorts.  Did you come in kit form too or were you factory assembled?
