I bought this amp used a little over a year ago from another head-fier here. Used it first to power my Omega 5 speakers and now my Hornshoppe Horns. I do love the clean and very detailed sound of this amp. Together with my speakers they do provide great sound staging and a nice holographic sound field. Unfortunately I need a little more power for the 'jam - sessions', so this lovely amp needs to go.
Tubes are two 6DN7 dual-triodes, producing about 2 watts of pure single-ended sound, comparable to a 2A3 amplifier. Coupling capacitors were upgraded to Sprague "orange drops" between stages and two quality EC caps in parallel at the output of the "parafeed" circuit. The original volume pot has been replaced by a nice Alps pot.
I also installed some C4S boards from Bottlehead.
This amp differs a little from most other Bottlehead amps, since it also has a impedance switch next to the headphone connections. Settings are 32 ohm - off - 600 ohm. This will help you to better match the amp to your headphones. I used the headphone connection as a subwoofer out - worked great on the 32 ohm setting.
There is some rust on the top of the power transformer - like most of these amps. Does not affect the great sound of this amp. Can probably removed with some fine sand paper.
This amp sells at the moment in KIT form for $ 469. C4S boards are an additional $ 50 or so. Assembly of the Amp from Bottlehead runs another $ 295.
Amp comes with 10 additional tubes, so you have a life-time tube supply for this amp.
I would like to have SOLD plus shipping for the amp and extra tubes.
