Descriptive Titling of a New Topic
« on: 9 Apr 2010, 05:20 pm »
As is good email standard practice, I think that a topic title should describe as best it can what the thread is about.

Titles like

"Do you think....."

"What if....."

"Have you noticed....."

serve no purpose for either searching or for a user to determine if it is of interest.  I think it would be most helpful to everyone and good site practice to include a proper subject title.

Hey Steve,
I do agree with you. When we usually post a new topic we should focus and go straight to the point. That also helps when people search at google for answers.

When people do this, I don't know if they think it's cute or clever (it's not) or what, but it serves no constructive purpose, in fact just the opposite.  I had mentioned how it affected determining user interest and internal forum searches, and you have brought up how it also adversely affects Web/Google searches.

Thanks for responding to a topic that had no responses due to lack of interest.

I like titles that show some creativity and thought and catch the eye and the interest. Usually, hopefully, the initial postings will keep the thread on topic and set the tone for the discussion to follow.

But titles that have words like "wanker" in them they are destined to be worthless and fully populated with posts by ... wankers. Self fulfilling, I'm afraid.

But if the title doesn't at least contain what the thread is about, it is useless for all searches and research.

You do know that "wankers" are masturbators, right?

They are all not like that so its a change i guess. But there really is not much there to keep it going productively.
