black lightning and squeezebox touch
« on: 25 Mar 2010, 03:16 am »
I am presently using a redwine modified olive symphony with an external dac. I rarely use the olive to play cd. Instead I have ripped most of my cd to an external hard. The squeezebox touch looks like a very interesting product which could replace the olive symphony. The advantage of the touch is a better interface and the ability to decode 24/96 files. The question to Vinnie is how close does he think the sound of the touch with black lightning would compare to the redwine olive symphony. Again note that i am only using the digital stream from the spdif.

Hi alinto,

While I have not compared the two, I have read good things about the SB Touch as a transport and have some customers who are using it with our Isabellina.  I am sure it can benefit from clean battery power - so with that in place, I don't see why the spdif output of the Touch cannot compete (or possibly be better) than that of the modded Olive.

But again, I have not done the comparison to give you a my final vote  :)

Best regards,

Vinnie
