How do you store your vinyl?
« on: 28 Sep 2010, 01:46 pm »
To store my LPs, the first thing I do is replace the paper inner sleeve with an MFSL anti-static sleeve, then re-insert the LP into the cardboard jacket, and cover the LP with a resealable poly outer sleeve. I recently thought that I should store the vinyl in the MFSL sleeve outside and behind the jacket in the poly outer sleeve to allow for easier access. Just wondering what everyone else is doing and if anybody has tried this method.

Hi Kevin.
Where did you buy your MFSL anti-static sleeve and the resealable poly outer sleeve?
Thanks.

First, I clean the record according to how much it needs. Old records from a flea market get a scrubbing; new records go on the RCM using cleaning fluid. After drying, the record goes into a MoFi Sound Lab Anti-Static inner sleeve. Sometimes, I use a outter poly sleeve, if I have them on hand, sometimes not. Then the records simply get stored vertically and carefully on the shelf. That's it.

1. Clean record on Loricraft using Audio Intelligent 3 fluid technique

2. Place record in DiscWasher inner sleeve

3. Place jacket in thick outer sleeve

4. Store vertically, spine out

I just leave mine in a pile in front of my stereo, you know, like you did with CDs at parties when you were young(er). With 30 grams of tracking force the scratches never bother me.

Sweet!  Or like we did when LP's where actually used by everybody.  I still have a Jefferson Starship album covered in beer residue left there for posterity.  Seems like something solid should be left over from those parties.

I like to replace any inferior inner sleeves with a poly paper from sleeve city, if the inner liner is of high quality I just keep it.  As many of my albums are either old from my own collection or purchased used, I don't do much to preserve the outer cover in those.  Most of my new issue albums have a nice poly cover included.  And I use fairly nice shelving that keeps the albums upright and not too squished.

I don't like resealable sleeves. I use the MoFi mostly. The thin profile usually let's me put the album back in the sleeve with the original inner sleeve (only is artwork or lyrics means I'm keeping it). Regular open poly outer protector.

My 16 year old youngest daughter is a vinyl nut and we'll clean 30 records at a pop in the Spin Clean. Our newest favorite way to do records in bulk. Single discs go on the Loricraft.

Vertical storage on the double wide five high Music Direct shelving that's no longer available.

1. Clean with Disc Doctor fluid on VPI-17 (Audio Intellegent 2 step for really dirty used records) & rinse with RO deionized water

2. Apply LAST Record Perservative

3. De-stat with ZeroStat gun

4. Place in MoFi Original Master Sleeves and insert into record jacket with opening to the top

5. Use poly outer sleeve to protect record jacket (opening at the top)

6. Store vertically, spine out, in alphabetical order by artist
