24/96 on Transporter
« on: 16 Mar 2010, 02:13 pm »
just wanted to check if anything has changed with playing 24/96 on the Transporter.  I've been converting all my 24/96 FLAC to Wavpac because 24/96 FLAC would just produce hiss when played.  With Wavpac they play like they should.  I've done some searching but can't find the answer.  I'm still using Squeezecenter 7.3.2.  Is the reason to convert to Wavpac for 24/96 because it's a FLAC problem or a Squeezecenter problem or a Transporter problem? Hope my question makes sense ;)

Thanks for any advice.

I'm surprised no one has chimed in here.
I don't have any real advice but to say that I haven't had any problems playing 24/96 FLAC files through my TP.
I'm using 7.4.1

Have you tried changing the Server Settings->File Types->File Format...Stream Format options?

Have you looked at what happens when you try to play a 24/96 flac by looking at the server log file?

If you search over at their forum, you will find the info. It is pretty server version- specific as to how it works.  The server will also dumb down higher resolution files to 96/24 under the right version/circumstances.

Yes, I posted about this FLAC-specific bug (i.e FLAC decoder in certain SC versions won't decode correctly for anything over 16/44) in earlier Squeeze Center versions a few times here on AC.  I am no longer a SqueezeServer user but it looks like later 7.4 versions have fixed this bug.  Regardless, the Wavpack workaround is seamless and safe.
