Well at first i was not impressed at all.I was useing klipsh heresy II's with my laptop acting as a server.I was listening to the new beatle's boxset mono version. No high's no low's.Really just about the worst i have ever heard them sound.
I scratched my head as i put in good part's and jim's designs usually knock it out of the park.
Well i just let it burn in as background music for a day then brought it to my best set of speaker's.
Well what a difference!!!I have about 15 hour's on my cymbal's not even really enough to tell i know but i'm seriously amazed!.I now know what the high end is:)
Great high's not rolled off a bit.Great low's for a 8 watt amp.
My speaker's are 96 db efficient and they fill my room with enough sound easily.
The nice thing about jim's cymbal's is that they get warmer the more you push them.Yeah i know it's distortion but is sound's good.At lower volume's they are crystal clear so you really get two type's of amp in one package.
I would describe this amp as a detail machine. It is dead quiet. And i mean no hum,no buzz, none!I own several fully restored tube amp's from the 60's these thing's are just about as loud as a 36 watt amp from that era which i find odd?
I'm now selling those amp's as now that i have heard the high end i can't go back.
I used kiwami and takman carbon resistor's.Auricaps and multicaps for coupleing.Eh gold pin 6h30's and sovtek retifier 5a4d.
If you think jim's other kit's are great and they are this one for me was the best by far.
I did use the 1620 output transformer instead of the 1615.
Great kit jim!
