The new firmware DOES NOT address the speaker settings, sorry to say.  That is the only real weakness I've found in the player.

The settings are controlled by the OEM chip maker and not Oppo.  Oppo is aware and when/if the OEM fixes/unlocks the chip they will adjust the setup routine as required.  (Discussed ad nauseam on AVS)

Anyone thinking of getting the upgrade mod of the Oppo-83SE by Nuforce?

The Nuforce would be nice, but I have the SE and am thinking of doing Dan's balanced 2-channel upgrade down the road a bit.

Are you talking about the tubed output stage Modwright is considering installing if there's enough interest?

I'd consider it, but am not leaning that way - just his current balanced mod.

I was listening to a 2L Reference Recording that has the BluRay and SACD of the same recording. I used a Platinum Signature Truth Sony 9000es for the SACD and a Denon DVD3800BDCi for the BluRay. While I thoroughly enjoy Dan's work with the Sony, I had to give the nod to the BluRay for the overall presentation. I'm hopping he will announce the tube mod before to long I figure his output stage on the SE would be hard to bet. Nice Sony CD changer you got there. Got a CDP79es myself wouldn't give it up for the world.
