Chassis Hole Drills & DIY Site Source

After responding to the previous post about transformer covers with a good source I perused the whole catalog of the seller. Well, they have some really amazing stuff! One thing that comes up quite often in discussion though is how to drill out the various large holes in the top plate. One option is a step drill. However, these are pretty expensive and somewhat imprecise. I think I found the ideal tool though at this site:

http://www.vt4c.com/shop/program/main.php?cat_id=14&group_id=8&hit_cat=

While you're there take a look at the catalog of all the products. It looks like places like partsconnexion source some of there stuff from the same factories, such as the teflon tube sockets. However, they're about $8 a piece cheaper here. Also, take a look at the CMC solid silver and solid copper female RCA jacks. These look really nice and are fair price. $24 for a pair of solid silver jacks! Their Transformer selection is also quite extensive with options to have custom made units. This site is DIYers Dream

Vt4C is indeed a good source altho I tried their RCAs with the serrated pins and didn't like'm.

The teeth look like carbide but it's hard to tell from the pics how the drill bit is attached to the arbor and that is the most important factor in longevity. Bi-metal hole saws you get at the hardware are good for large holes; the Rigid brand from Home Depot have an especially secure arrangement for attaching the arbor to the bit. More expensive than the VT4C bits. Perhaps someone will report how they fared with them.
