Free Starbucks coffee - April 15th. ......
« on: 14 Apr 2010, 03:45 am »
Starbucks will give customers who bring a reusable tumbler to participating stores a free brewed coffee on Thursday, part of its effort to recruit customers to help reduce their shared environmental impact.

Just in time to keep you awake as you fill in those last minute tax returns....

 Yeah, I wonder what is the biggest tumbler I have.

Chris, I don't know if they will considered that a tumbler though. But I'm sure there will be some who would try that

Take care,

I am in the clear minority, but I find Starbuck's coffee to be repeatedly undrinkable.  Does anyone else find their beans to be too charred?  Of course, I drink it black, without the ice cream, cinnamon, chocolate, whipped cream, etc.

The price and pretentiousness is what leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

My wife loves the stuff, which is why I am glad we don't have one in our town.

Yep. Yep. Yep.

Of course, I drink it black, without the ice cream, cinnamon, chocolate, whipped cream, etc.

Me too.  Thing is, my cheap daily coffee is Starbucks/Kirkland Breakfast Blend from Costco.  It's a little inconsistent, in that it's labeled Medium Roast and half of the time it is - nice medium brown color with no leaching oil.  But sometimes it is darker with drops of oil, on it's way to French Roast.

I think (a) they tend to over-roast their beans, (b) most of the beans they brew with in their stores are French Roast level and beyond, and (c) If I use the same beans they do, my homemade will taste better and less bitter.

It seems in the store that my choices are a cup that is too light with very little taste, or over-roasted, too dark, and too bitter.  But like you say, cream and sugar it up, and you can hide some of the nastiness.

I am with you on that sentiment.  I read a few times that Fourbuck's burn their coffee deliberately to extract more caffeine.

The Kirkland stuff is the best $5/pound coffee I've had.  The ones I've had have been pretty good, better than (or as good as) the Pete's coffee I get when I can't get to Costco.

I hate to say it, but Dunkin' Donuts' coffee is better than Starbucks'.  Free is hard to pass up, though.  (Although even DD coffee grates on me now that I'm used to using an Aeropress coffee maker.)

"What town doesn't have a Starbucks??!!"

Actually they were forced to close a slew of stores do to mindless, overoptimisic expansion, @ least in the NYC area.

A small college town in south central Missouri, ROLLA.  Probably no Strawbucks within 50 miles.   :thumb:

Very true. I hate their coffee as well ... and avoid them unless i've no choice. I prefer making my coffee with Eight O'Clock ground and aeropress.
