Hi,

I have seen software like IK Multimedia's ARC (Advanced Room Correction System) and other software that you can use as a plug-in with you Audio software to tune or fine tune your home studio.  ARC comes with a measurement mic that plugs into a regular audio preamp and then into your Audio Card or USB Audio input to your PC.  However, there is also cheaper software, such as Acoustisoft EFT 5.986, or freeware call Room EQ Wizard.  ARC comes with a measurement mic; however the other two softwares require a measurement mic.  I spoke to a guy at LinearX who makes the M31 measurement mic and he said measurement mics need special hardware which you input the mic into, NOT a standard studio audio preamp.  Does anyone know if the Behringer ECM8000 or the Dayton  EMM-6 plug into a regular Pre-Amp or do you need special hardware to plug them into.  Their specs are that they have XLR outputs and use power from +15-+45 volts of power.

Can anyone offer any help?

Thanks.

The 8000 I believe uses phantom power so you'd need a power supply.  Other than that, I don't believe there's anything special you need.

Hi,

Does it have XLR in and outs and will it work with a standard studio audio preamp?  Can it use +48V phantom power from the preamp. Finally, do you have the calibration data on it?

Let me know and if everything is what I need; I might make an offer.

Sincerely,

Yes, yes, and yes. (Though a microphone has no input, only an output.)

The ECM8000 is pretty flat as is:

Thanks for your response.  I read the article you did on testing the ten mics.  I wish you had included the Dayton ECM-6.  I don't know if you've heard of it but it has slightly better specs than the Behringer and when you buy one you can login and get calibration data for the specific mic you purchase sent to you.  So you basically get a calibrated mic for $50. Have you seen the mic?  Do you have any opinion on it relative to the Behringer or Nady?

I'd be interested in your opinion.

Sincerely,

I've never heard of a Dayton ECM-6 so I have no opinion. If the maker offers specs, that's all you need to know.
