Additional Pair of Outputs for Sub Amps after Volume Control

What is the best way to add a second pair of preamp outputs after the volume control.  Simply paralleling two sets of outputs seems to me would have the two amplifiers impacting the other amps performance.  I considered a pair of diodes in line to feed the sub amp but thought I would ask here first.  Thanks for any input.

Ed

Just use a high quality y-splitter.

Hi Ed,

Does your preamp have the output RCAs fed directly by the volume control ... or was that a rhetorical statement and it actually has an output buffer between the volume control and the output RCAs?

If the latter then, yes, either use a 'Y' splitter in each output RCA ... or install a parallel pair of output RCA sockets.  Your only problem may come from the fact that the Zins of the following power amps act in parallel (and halve if they are identical amps) and this combined Zin thus fails the "Zin should be >10x Zout " rule.

I have done this and in my case, preamp Zout is 120ohms and the two Zins combined gives 50Kohms ... so I don't have a problem!  :D

OTOH, if your volume control does feed the output RCAs directly, then IMO you're stuffed anyway ... so adding a second output is not going to make things any worse!

Andy

Thanks guys.

A little more info.  I currently run an integrated but I am building an amp.  The volume control is an interim step until I can purchase the Dodd buffer.  So, no buffer, just a DAC>Volume Control> Amp.  I guess I will just continue to feed the sub amp high level audio until I can pick up the buffer.
