Passive radiator on the cheap?

Does an unconnected woofer (with a weak 'lil magnet) make for a halfway decent passive radiator on the cheap, or am I nuts?  I'm thinking of adding a pair of full range drivers to my old mediocre speakers instead of tossing them.  Nothing fancy or anything, just a quick and dirty experiment for giggles.

My first thought was that you would want to remove the voice coil... but actually I don't think you need to. It might work, it might not, it just depends on the tuning of the "PR" and the other driver in the box. Most likely it will be mistuned, I expect, although you could experiment with sticking stuff onto the PR to increase the mass...

How does one remove the voice coil?  Hacksaw I'd imagine?

I dunno :-). You might have to knock the magnet off first.
