It is mostly for unsigned artists without a label.  If your band went down to your local studio and recorded a CD, you can sell it on CD Baby.

Have bought many a cd that way and found a whole bunch of artists that should be alot bigger and on the radio then alot of what is out there....try them out, $5 is pretty cheap for some excellent tunes!

For me it's been hit or miss. I pick a genre and grab 3 cds that look interesting. I think only one time did I get 3 cds not worth listening to. I have found a couple where I went back and purchased more by a particular artist.
