Another Earth

I saw this movie the other day on cable. Only the theme is science fiction - a duplicate of our planet is discovered and that opens the door to myriad possibilities.  The story takes place on Earth and there's no spaceships and star wars type stuff. It's really a story about atonement and redemption, in a moral sense.

This movie is from 2011. It won 5 awards.

Something about this movie, maybe the pace and feel, reminded me of an old favorite, The Lathe of Heaven.  That was based on a book of the same name by Ursula Le Guin. I didn't see the remake, but the original was great, really got you thinking. After a nuclear explosion in LA, the hero wanders around and collapses. It starts up again in Portland and our hero starts having "effective" dreams. When he has one of these dreams whatever he dreamt becomes reality.

I've been wanting to see this one for awhile now, along with Melancholia.

This is a very good movie....I was not exactly prepared for this. I did not read any particular review but just picked this up on a whim. Very glad i did though ... very thoughtful movie. Wife found it slow, but i enjoyed it.
