Did anyone else notice this post over on the Vinyl Asylum?
http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/vinyl/messages/88/881855.htmlThe poster has taken the Silonex LDRs (LED variable resistors) that people have been using in projects such as the Lightspeed Attenuator and applied them to the task for cartridge loading. This seems like a great idea since I've found that for both MM and MC cartridges, changing the loading is a great way of fine tuning the cartridge/tonearm system to give the optimal sound. My Grado MM cartridge likes 10Kohms instead of the stock 47K load of a standard phono stage while my MC cartridges are all over the map. The only way of finding the right sound is to experimentally try lots of different resistors, which can get tedious very fast. So having a variable, high quality resistor is a great step forward. I'm definitely tempted to give this a try, although I'd do something much simpler than this fellow tried.
