Tube rectification & wattage output
« on: 7 Jan 2010, 01:22 pm »
I've been looking on Audiogon and other places and noticed some misrepresented tube amplifiers. A 5U4/5AR4 based power supply in a tube amplifier can produce around 100 watts maximum output. An amplifier with one of these can provide up to 35 watts/channel at the very most. (AKA: Dynaco ST-70) I have seen claims on some amps with a single rectifier tube producing 50- 80 watts per channel. That's not happening!  More current can be obtained by ganging up tube rectifiers.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.
