Temperature and Speakers?
« on: 3 Jan 2010, 03:15 pm »
Hi All,

I have my SongTower's (and friends) in my basement. My basement is finished and insulated, however, it still gets a little chilly down there. I live in Missouri, so we see a huge swing in temperatures.. right now it's 6 degrees outside. The coldest I've seen it get in the basement is 59 degrees, but it may get slightly cooler. In the summer, it gets up to around 78 at times.

Is 59 degrees too cold for the speakers? Should I get a space heater?

When I suggested that I get a space heater "for the speakers", my wife was not amused. I figured I'd get your opinions.

Thanks,
Scott

No worries at 59*F.

In the summer it's important that you don't have too much humidity.  If you do, make sure you get a dehumidifier.

W/ ambvient temp from 59 to 78 degrees, these spkrs. require no coddling. Keep the Mrs. happy. It may pay rewards in other battles.

Electronics will deviate with temperature (less deviation with stricter components and better designs), and it's likely your speaker enclosure material will as well. The deviations can be measured and are usually included in component data sheets.

As to whether or not you will hear any difference. ::shrug::
