In coverage of the 2009 RMAF, The Absolute Sound's Chris Martens lists the Songtower QWT in the "Greatest Bargain" category along with the Focal 826W. Later in the article, he mentions that he was impressed by the HT4 as well. The Van Alstine Ultra Valve is also mentioned as being one of the best values at the show. Nice to see Jim, Dennis and Frank get some much deserved praise.

Thanks for the heads up.  Is that in the January hard copy news stand edition?  Or is there an on-line cite?

Dennis.....it's actually issue#200( hardcopy), February 2010. I might also add that Steve Stone said the VanAlstine room with the Ultimate 70/ Songtower combination "rocked". One of the few times I can remember TAS going out of its way to praise anyone but the industry "high rollers".

Thanks.  Guess I'll drop by Union Station tomorrow and pick up a copy.   For the record, Steven Stone named the ST RT and Frank's electronics as "Best Sound for the Money" in last February's review of the 2008 RMAF.  So it's not unprecedented.  Still, I'm happy he's not the only TAS reviewer who liked them this year.

High praise for these designers and others who we know for their value to the art of reproducing music.  Mean that in the largest sense of the word.  Think I still have a Val Alstine modified Dyna PAS3 around somewhere.  Hope so, anyway.  They are proof you don't have to throw exorbitant sums of money at this hobby of ours to bring recorded music to life.

This would be outstanding news.  Breaking through in these magazines is a real victory.

Congratulations to Jim, Dennis, Paul, and Frank.  :thumb:

If there ever was any debate as to whether intelligent design exists in audio, these gentlemen have settled it.  Its about time the magazines recognized that too!
