How'd Boston come into this?

How'd Boston come into this?

Was there any reason for you to call them the Spanks? instead of the Yanks? It was your subtle jab that brought Boston into the conversation.

Oh come on.  Sure there was a subtle if meaningless jab but my post was on topic.  It is funny that I constently hear Yankee fans say how much they don't care.

I'm a Yankee fan and season ticket holder. As a result of this luxury tax MY money ends up subsidizing other teams' payrolls and/or allows the owners of those teams to keep their ticket prices lower. I've been to a lot of major league stadiums and I can tell you that I also pay significantly more for parking and at the concession stands than fans of the teams that are being subsidized.
There are no rules in place requiring owners that receive this money to spend it on payroll and I'm sure that Scot Boras is right that some of them are pocketing the extra money instead of using it to improve their teams.

You also pay to have teams to play.  Also New York prices are higher regardless.

Sure George but their profit is not as high either.

I don't think the WS cost the Spanks anything but it earned them a bunch.

Don't assume their profits aren't equal or higher.

We know that the Yankees incoming revenue is higher, but so are their costs.

I bet there are some teams making as much or even more profit than the Yankees.

So in 2009 the yanks made $80 mill more then the second place sox an $115mil more then the 3rd place Mets.  So that means the yanks make around 44% more then the Mets but only spend ~33% more in payroll.  I would link but it's a pain on the iPhone.

When you get a chance, please send the link to your source of information.

Here is something I found that gives some numbers at the start of the season:

While we already knew the Yanks had the highest revenue, take a look at the operating income column.

Yeah I saw that article.  I think my point is that is seems silly for a fan of the #1 earning #1 spending and #1 team in the league to complain about anything to do with the status quo.  If you want the Washington Generals and cheap seats then I guess I cannot relate.

So if it is not a salary cap, then why even have a threshold?  What is the point?  More profit redistribution?  I have to say I don't follow baseball as much as I used to so I'm just out of touch on this topic.   I know a salary cap has to be a big negative with the players union.  So was the threshold/luxury tax a compromise between the owners and the players union?
