Squeeze Box Touch only compatible w/FAT32
« on: 8 Nov 2009, 05:05 pm »
I was browsing the Squeeze Box forum and discovered that at least for the initial release, the new Touch will only be compatible w/ FAT32 volumes.
All my present flac files are stored on NTFS volumes.  No Touch in my future unless Logitech modifies this truly idiotic choice.
EDIT: Never mind, the FAT32 restriction refers to any direct USB  connected files to the Touch.(The Touch has its own USB port.)  Files being streamed via ethernet are not affected.
Sorry for the error.

SB Touch will support Read Only for external USB drives with NTFS.

I have this data after discussing this with Logitech and a response from 2nd level support, I posted the communication at www.slimdevices.com in the forums under the Touch thread.

I dont know if will be on day one, I am waiting a reply to that.

But, you can use a utility to format any drive to FAT32 if needed BEFORE adding your music files. There is a utility that is available to do this. I have tested in and it does work with large 1TB and larger usb drives.

All the best
Alex

Thats good so whatever format you put into the USB drive, it will be recognized.
Apparently, one of the beta testers, John Swenson, rewrote some scripting and got the USB port to work in both directions which should interest those w/ USB DACs.
