Is Yamahas NS line any good?

Hey I was just on the Yamaha wed site and they have got some pretty good prices on their Ns line.  But obviously I'm not convinced they are being completly truthful in their specs.

mark,

i don't know about yamaha s consumer range, but their pro audio range of active nearfields are great-esp. the msp10.

i'm actually looking for a pair of  yamaha s NS10m - passive nearfields
found in just about every recording studio---- they are hard to get for a good price here in australia.

Hi,

I haven't listened to any Yamaha speakers recently, but in the past their inexpensive models were often good buys, offering good octave-to-octave balance and reasonably low distortion for bookshelf speakers of modest price. Their NS line was topped by the NS-1000 which was a remarkably detailed speaker in its day. Some (like me) felt it too bright, but others were attracted to the added clarity and detail that brightness brought to recorded sound. I think the new models are definetly worth a listen.
