For anyone reading this thread who is in the market for a new TT/arm and is also concerned about legacy record warps I highly recommend the VPI Classic with the standard 10.5i SE arm and the Benz Micro Wood SL (although I'm sure there are many other worthy cartridges).  Since I've been revisiting my old collection the worst warp was in my Eagles first album.  I would call it an undulating warp at least 5 mm at its worst.  The aforementioned rig plays the entire record without a hitch and actually sounds better than I remember.  Still, I may get the perimeter ring and optional center weight as I suspect it would sound even better.

I tend to avoid playing vinyl with anything other than a minor (gentle 1mm or so) warp due to concerns over accelerated suspension ageing.
Much greater mechanical input exists when tracking warps.
