Nikon Coolpix s570 worth buying?
« on: 9 Dec 2009, 07:44 pm »
I need to find a camera for my daughter for Xmas. We need to keep it to 200. She said she'd like the Nikon Coolpix 570 but I figure it is like audio and there may be better cameras for the same money.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hey!

    I don't know.  :dunno:

But look on a bright side. Your daughter already saves you some headache looking for a Xmas gift for her. You could buy another camera that you feel is better but if she doesn't like it than what's the point?

These days there are tons of P&S digicam out there. Not easy looking for one that would fit you well. I might be in a market for a P&S digicam in maybe a year or two. I've been eyeing one right now. Just going to wait for the price to drop. But for now my 4.5 years old one is still doing fine.

   Anyway, good luck. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I agree, get her exactly what she wants.  It's a point and shoot camera.  Don't audiophile it to death like you and I would, if for ourselves!   ;)

Yep

My neice asked for advice on her first camera and we are getting her the Canon A1000 for 129 (last years model)

Your daughter wants the Nikon for a reason, maybe she has used a friend's, so you can't lose!

I have the old coolpix 950 - it is a great camera. It was 600

I wouldn't want that Nikon vs other options, but I agree, if she wants it then it makes a lot of sense.  The differences certainly aren't huge, probably mostly user preference type stuff.

Best advice I've read on here in a while: "Don't audiophile it to death."

It's certainly the first time I've seen "audiophile" used as a verb.  srb is carving new paths! :thumb:

I have an email into Merriam-Webster but I'm pretty sure they will ignore me.

Main Entry: au?dio?phile
Pronunciation: \ˈȯ-dē-ō-ˌfī(-ə)l\
Function: verb
Definition: to over-analyze, nitpick, quibble, find fault, criticize, split hairs

FWIW, Nikon cameras come with a two year warranty, whereas most other cameras come with only one year.  When a camera dies, it's as good as trash.

I would like permission to use this phrase on multiple forums in the future.
I will give credit to Steve when I do.

Hey!

Are you sure? I think that even the top Nikon D3x DSLR is listed as with 1 year.

Maybe not the higher end cameras...?  I'll have to double check, but here in Canada, all Nikon cameras I've seen advertised come with a 2 year warranty.  That's part of the reason why I bought a Cool Pix or a Canon Power Shot.
