I've used USB Dacs with several Dells here. I have never had a problem with pops and clicks. I know some like to consistently call Dells unreliable. I haven't experienced this as yet. All we use are Dells on my job. Some of these PCs are 10 yrs old and still function until they are decommissioned for newer, faster processors and more memory.
In most cases the problem is operator error.

There's no doubt in my mind, Dell's going to sell a shit load of these!

No problem my friend. I was just pointing out I've seen this many times. Just as I've seen Mac guys say Windows PCs all tear up and have to be replaced within a year of buying them. Probably one of the biggest untruths out there. :D

Some of these links also mention the Acer Aspire Revo. Has anyone had experience with the Revo?

Not with the Revo, but both my wife and I have Aspire One netbooks and love them.  One of them came with a defective battery and Acer sent me a new one with zero hassles.

I like the looks of it, but when I went to the Dell order page and saw the different options line up, the only one that would entice me would be the higher spec one with a dedicated ATI 4330 graphics processor and the 4 GB memory...but with this, the price reaches something as high as $900.  The barebone $229 might seem to be the best bang for the buck and later opt for upgrades. Of course will all things in compact packages there is a limitation in the upgradability factor.

Nevertheless tempting. :icon_twisted:

Any reason why you need 4GB of memory?  I upgraded my home computer to 4GB, and to be honest, I don't notice any difference.  Also, this computer has two empty slots for memory, which makes a later upgrade easy (if there are a total of two slots, you have to throw away 2GB of memory to add 4GB).  The computer I'm working on now has 2GB, and I have 15 windows open and am listening to FLAC files on Squeezeplay.  Oops -- I guess it's 18 windows, because there are three open in Firefox.

I'm in the same boat, though.  I always get the upgrades, and if you fully load this thing, it gets expensive fast.

The reason for 4GB is that it a 64-bit OS like Home Premium 64-bit can use it.

Also, more and more programs will be able to use it. Currently Graphics and Video apps are more likely to take advantage of more memory.

Historically 4GB was unnecessary, usually.

XP can only use 3GB+ depending on the motherboard. So 4GB could still be usefully since it is usually either 2GB or 4GB of RAM possible.

If you are tempted to max this thing out, I would look at a different computer. When you want to go beyond the specs of this PC you are talking about a better video card and a better processor. The best thing to do in that case is to go to the Dell Outlet store and search all desktops - set 2 or 3 criteria - video memory such as 512MB or 1GB, and a processor that you can live with. Then also you may be able to set a minumum amount of memory. You can get 4,6, or 8. If you want 4GB, don't even set that criteria, there are so many with 4GB RAM. A reurbished Dell is usually a new Dell that had a faoulty part or was a cancelled order. Or, if you see 15+ of the same model, they are probably coming off a business lease or a canceled business order. They have the same warranty and support as a new machine, and usually arrive in 2-3 days. Compare to a new one if possible, just to make sure there isn't a crazy sale on that model.
