Speaker receommendation for new Arcam AVR600?
« on: 25 Nov 2009, 04:47 pm »
Upgrading my home theater system. I currently have the following. Sony kdsr60xbr1, onkyo 605 for receiver, paradigm v5 monitors, pair of titans and cc-290 up front and a pair of mini monitors in the back. All speakers are on stands, the cc-290 is mounted above television on a shelf. I just ordered the arcam avr600 and that will replace the onkyo. I also just picked up the svs pb-12 plus sub. It's going to take me a little while before I can upgrade my speakers. Was wondering if I can get some ideas on what to look at.My room is 20x20 with 8 foot ceilings, system is mostly used for watching television, bluray movies on PS3,and some videogaming. Thanks for the help

The Arcam should sound fine with the Paradigm, maybe look at a step up within that line.  What budget are you looking in?  On a budget I'd say look at the Mordaunt Short.  If looking for an actual upgrade you might take a listen to Dynaudio's Excite series.  Nice choice in sub.

I have around $4500 right now. Had more but I had some unexpected bills that I had to pay. Speaker upgrade will do it for me. I have been waiting a long time to buy some decent home theater equiptment. I'll look into what you had mentioned. Thanks for the info. John

With that I'd definitely recommend the Dynaudio Excite series.  You'll get the high quality sound Dynaudio offers and the Excite drivers have been specially designed to be easier to drive than all prior Dynaudio series.  I've heard several Dynaudio and Arcam system combos and they sound great together.  They are more of a dynamic combo.  Let us know what you get and how you like it.
