I was a true pleasuring meeting John Casler, Brian Cheney, James Bongiorno and Larry Kosova in person. I even caught a glimpse of Dorne Dibble! One one had I wanted to kick his arse for taking so long to build my RM/X cabinets. On the other hand, he did a damn nice job on my cabinets so I'm thankful to have them. And he's bigger than me. But I bet Casler could take him
I spent some time with Jeff Rowland (tall guy!) since he is fixing the bum channel in my 302/4 amp during his spare time. Dragging that 85lb beast across the Alexis Park grounds to his suite was my workout for the day. Also got to spend some time with an old friend, Craig Oxford of Nearfield Acoustics. The latest iteration of his Pipedreams sounded fantastic. Someone in the suite shorted a mammoth $38,000 Burmester amp. Dieter himself said 'dat vont be vorking for da rist of da show". Jeff Rowland came to the rescue, bring up an extra pair of 201 monoblocks. They sounded superb driving the Pipedream subs and were about 1/100 the size of the dead Burmester amp. The tiny monoblocks also sounded very good driving Focal (nee JM Labs) Utopias in the JRDG suite.
I also heard good sound from the mbl reference rig (sexiest equipment I've ever seen!) and the full Von Gaylord system.
I was impressed with my initial listen to the RM-30's. At one point Brian turned up the volume so high he promptly cleared the room! The speakers played
very loud without any perceivable distortion. I had to leave the room but I bet the stators of the neo panels were trying to fly out of the metal casing!
Also saw and heard the Morchai speakers and had the pleasure of meeting Julian Turner. Very cool looking speakers, if you're into post-modernism or a big fan of cubism. Speakers weren't yet optimized but they have promise.
Tomorrow I'll head out with a few CDs I brought and my Olympus E-20N digicam. Certainly I'll spend a little more time with the RM-30's, and also go back to hear the Pipedreams, Von Gaylord, and Utopias with some more familiar material. I'll also go listen to the Eggleston Andra II's. Big B was scolded for telling the Eggleston exhibitor the speakers "lacked resolution" Brian, you won't make friends by always telling the truth
I'll also head over to T.H.E SHOW, mainly to see the Wisdom speakers, Epiphany Audio (G-R Alphas on steroids) speakers, and Horsehead's modified Wadia CD player in the Great Northern Audio room. And will probably go to the convention center to check out big plasma Tvs. Last but not least, I need to scope the hot babes in the Halcro and Gilmore Audio rooms
I'll have pics of the show to post when I return home on Sunday.
