Been Given Antother Driver Option For Sachiko Horns
« on: 20 Nov 2009, 03:40 am »
Been moving some extra gear out to free up some funds.

Gentleman is offering me a new pair of Lowther EX2 in a partial trade.

Got the Sachiko Double Horn cabinets coming hopefully next week. Already bought the Fostex FE206E drivers, and they are sitting in my closet.

The question is, how well would the Lowther work in the Sachiko. TS specs look close, but not super close. Haven't run the number through a program, but of course that doesn't tell everything either.

I am not sure I am a huge fan of the Lowther sound, although most of the times I have heard them they have been in Oris horns.

Anyone got any thoughts/opinions?

Regards

Mister Pig,
Look up Scottmoose over on the DIY Audio Forum. Click on Speakers Full Range or do a member search, you will find him. He designed the Sachiko for the Frugal Horn site. Also contact Dave at Planet 10 hifi, he also has a very good working knowledge of the Sachiko.

Depending on the alignment of the planets or other factors, he can be somewhat perfunctory when answering the question (countless times now):

"can I use a totally different driver in one of your enclosures than that for which it was designed?"

the politely short answer may well be "no"

From my limited exposure to Lowther drivers (in both front and rear loaded horns, and biamped OBs with 15" woofer) I'd opine that regardless of the similarity of T/S parameters to a Fostex, that there will be huge differences your subjective evaluation between the two.
