Positive Feedback 45 is out http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue45/toc45.htm, and described the BPT/Empirical room. You've been far too clever for Positive Feedback Steve, but they liked the sound !

The rest of this system was from Empirical Audio (www.empiricalaudio.com) and DEQX and, despite having it explained to me twice by two different people, I could not remotely follow what was going on. There were at least six small boxes (pairs of Empirical Audios' new DAC, Off-Ramp 3, and Pace Car) in the middle of the floor and enough wires to organize a telephone system. The speakers are truly gorgeous and the sound was superb, however it was being reproduced. Seeing and hearing this level of all-out effort to recreate music realistically is what makes going to RMAF so enjoyable.  www.b-p-t.com

In regards to us new PaceCar 2 owners, what do you think Dave Clark Of Positive Feedback meant when he said:

"Especially so with the Empirical Audio Off-Ramp 3?that has since replaced the Pace Car due to compatibility issues, not because it is better than the Pace Car, though it is mighty close as it is now configured? so read on".

What I meant was that the Pace Car I had here would only pass 16/44.1 and if I wanted to upsample of play back any 24/96 files I am out of luck. The OR 3 does do 24/96 and so that is all there is to it. I have since upgraded the OR 3 to the Ultraclock... very nice. I had an earlier Pace Car (the 1 version I guess) and not the newer 2.

From the article... "Off-Ramp 3 is killer and since it does 24/96 and sounds so damn nice... and that I find that it is very competitive sonically with the older Pace Car (the version I have here does not do 24/96), well... I am not using the Pace Car much at all. The Pace Car also uses the Superclock 4 and well... darn if I hear much to say that it is better than the latest Off-Ramp 3. Besides the Off-Ramp is for me a more practical alternative to the Pace Car (being USB and 24/96), has that captive XLR output (the Pace Car has a pig-like-tail to connect to), and well... I like what the Off-Ramp 3 does to my music."

Thanks Dave for the comparison of the two power supplies, I had already gone the BPT route, but suspect the Hynes would be a slightly better fit with my preferences after reading your analysis.

Thanks for reading, but all I can say is that this is my experiences and should never be construed (especially by me!) as being something absolute... that is, because I heard it it is now the 'law'. Hate that in other reviewers.
