Ok,

I have preorderd the Touch!

I have been using dbpoweramp and have ripped 57+ cds so far and its 16.6 GB storage using the default compression with FLAC.

This is really not a issue like I thought it might be using a lossless codec.

This is great! I will copy the entire library to at least 4 drives for safety in case a drive fails.

The touch according to Logitech is due out in late DEC.

Amazon is taking pre-orders....USB and a 24/96 dac!

My answer for you is that you can't know if an external DAC will sound better than your OPPO without trying one. I do know that my 2 external DACs (MF DACv3 and TACT ) give better sound than the output from a Duet.

There are some good, relatively inexpensive DACs coming on the market now. The new Musical Fidelity v-DAC goes for $300 and has gotten great reviews:

There are other contenders in this price range. See if a dealer will let you give one a trial. Or buy a DAC used on audiogon.

Since no one has the new Touch yet, we'll have to see, but perhaps the new DAC and circuitry will take it up a notch above the current models (in sound quality, apart from the new 24/96 spec).

I looked on both Logitech and Amazon sites, but did not see any availability date.  Were you given an expected availability date upon ordering?

Hello,

No date listed on Amazon. I called Logitech they said late December.
As far as how good this dac will sound we will see in late December! aa

I have seen a few posts stating that external dacs all sound different...and some that say they bought a $599 dac and its sounds "better' but not $599 better!  :duh:

Anyhow I will try this and compare to the Oppo CD analog  and the Onkyo 805 dacs and then maybe try out a few external to see for myself if its worth going down that route.

All the best
