Using 12v Trigger input on a 3B ST and 4B ST
« on: 5 Oct 2009, 01:06 pm »
I have searched but continue to be puzzled about triggering Bryston amps through their 12V input.

I am using a SONY 4300ES receiver for one and a B&K AVR 307 for the other.  In both cases, I am running a 1/8 inch jack from the receiver to a bare wire end that I am inserting into the input on the amp labeled "DC" and setting the delay to 1 or so.  The amps do not turn on when the front switch is engaged, which makes me think settings are right at the amp end.

Getting the receivers to trigger the input is where I think the problem is.  None of the settings are as simple as "turn the amp on."  They are settings with labels like "Zone A" or "Input".

Anyway, maybe this really is not a question about the Bryston amps but the receivers.  If anyone has thoughts I would appreciate hearing them.

Odd that your having a problem with both setups.

1. Are you using a mono 2-conductor 1/8"/ 3.5mm plug?

2. Trigger outputs are programmable for each input selected, but if you haven't changed the defaults, they should work.  On the B&K, you will need to use control output 1 or 3, as by default, 2 is for Zone 2, and 4 is an IR repeater.  Don't know about the Sony.

3. If you have a voltmeter, you can check for 12V on either receiver's trigger output.

Some trigger outputs are 0v pairs - So check for 12v as mentioned above with a meter, or manual for that product.

You are looking for a "12v trigger output"

I used to use ST series amps but dont have any left to check.

The Power switch on the FRONT must be ON.

Set the delay to 0 - 4 not local.

Local will ignore the 12v trigger and work on the front power switch.

As above post I think check you have 12v first.

12v trigger set up - Some kit allows you to tell it which inputs will set the trigger to ON, this is used if you have a 5.1 system and also use for 2ch, this will allow you to fire up the 2ch amps and ALL when required for5.1 - these have more than one trigger output.

I have not used either of your pre/pro's so cant help with model specific info.......But I have doen this with every Bryston amp I have had and all pre/pro's I have used......

So i should all be possible

Yep...the SP 1.7 is like this. My 6B (center & rear channels) does not fire up unless DVD is selected on the SP 1.7. Then, as soon as I switch inputs...the amp powers down.
