I have decided to make available the CAT-TWO cartridge alignment tool for the vinyl enthusiast. For now, it will be only available as a complete kit, featuring:

(1) CAT-TWO cartridge alignment tool (with stringer).
(1) ACT Anti-skating calibration tool.
(1) VSI Visual speed indicator (strobe disc)
(1) CD-ROM Full operational instructions.

And for the holidays, I will include free, (1) azimuth gauge and (1) VTA gauge.

The CAT-TWO is printed very exacting from my CAD with very incredible precision, then laminated for durability. The ACT is made from clear acrylic and is made to lay over the CAT-TWO for proper setting of anti-skating. The VSI strobe disc is made to check TT speed for 33 1/3, 45 and 78 RPM. It must be used with a magnetically ballasted fluorescent lamp to get the 60 cycle flicker (as all strobe cards require). The new self ballasted lamps have special circuits in them to prevent the usual strobing effect and do not work well for this application. I use a PL13 fluorescent trouble light that can be purchased at most home DIY stores and hardware stores.

These products are only available thru me, so PM me if you are interested.

Cost is $55.00 for the complete set. (I foot the bill for shipping in the USA). I require payment thru Paypal.

This device is not going to align your table for you. It requires you to do some research to find specifications for your table/arm combination. I am here to assist you. I also include the links for some "Freeware" offered by several folks in the vinyl community to help you on your journey. The CAT-TWO is the measuring tool, you must decide on the numbers.

It just takes a few steps to align your cartridge properly. Let's say you have a Technics SL1200MK2 table. The specifications for the spindle center to tone arm pivot center is 215mm (8.464"). If you go to the vinylengine website, you can download a freeware called Arc Template Generator. In the top window, enter the spindle to pivot distance (215), select the IEC method button, then at the bottom select Lofgren B if you so desire (least average distortion) and then hit the Print Arc Template. A small window pops up with one very important piece of information, the OVERHANG. In this case, it is 18.282mm.

Now after aligning the CAT-TWO card towards the tone arm pivot per the instructions, you simply adjust your cartridge in or out until it is at the required overhang distance (18.282mm).

Then, I have provided on the null point scale, null point locations for Lofgren A and Lofgren B curves. The B curve is in purple.

Place the stylus on first purple dot on the scale line and notice if the front of your cartridge is in parallel with the grid. If so, go to the other purple dot and check for the same parallelism.

You are done! It's that easy.

By the way, I make all of the cards. I check to exactness of each printing, I cut them out, I laminate them. Nothing is "farmed out".
