Mobile USB Dac problem
« on: 23 Jun 2009, 06:34 am »
Hi there,

I bought the Icon and also the speakers off amazon and was impressed so when I saw the mobile I bought that as well.

I just plugged the mobile in and it does work but only on one channel i.e. I only hear sound through one side of the headphones. Do I have a faulty unit ?

Bummer if I do because I live in NZ. Any suggestions as to whether I can rectify the problem myself or maybe a setup issue I am unaware of ?

Thanks

You should contact iconsupport@nuforce.com
What is the diameter size of the plastic connector at the edge of the 3.5mm plug? May be it is not fully inserted.

Thanks I have sent an email it is not a connection issue as I am using the usb port and there is a good connection, everything else is the same gear I use with the ICON I bought from you which is absolutely excellent by the way.

Do you only get one channel with both headphone jacks? I have one set of earphones (the ones that came with my Zune, I think) that only give one channel when plugged into the centermost headphone jack (the one with the microphone icon next to it). I thought there was something wrong with my Mobile, but my other headphones work just fine.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for that. Yes the connectors on the mobile are very dodgy. You have to really just get the right spot for it to work and it only works on one of the sockets, the other socket you get mono in one ear. I now have stereo in one socket. In comparison to the ICON I would give the ICON an 8 out of 10 it is pretty much audiophile grade and the mobile I would give a 5 out of 10 in comparison to my mobile. Given I have the S1 as well and it is also an 8 out of 10 makes me think there is something wrong with the unit I have.

Can someone else who has both units tell me whether there is a big difference in quality between the two using headphones ?

Thanks for the help though Chuck.

In our opinion, Icon Mobile headphone amp should be just as good as Icon headphone amp. Please email a close up photo of the headphone plug in the Icon Mobile to iconsupport@nuforce.com.

Wow that's great to hear as I think the ICON is superb. I have emailed you a picture, it looks perfect to me but I have to play around a lot when I plug in teh headphones till I get a reasonable stereo signal, then even at its best it is a long way from what I hear on the ICON which works perfectly when I plug the headphones in there. Same computer, same headphones. The mobile just lacks any real grunt in the low end and also the soundstage is nowhere near as good so I must have just been unlucky and got a faulty one.

Forgot to say thanks for sending me a new Icon Mobile, the new one does not have the same issue as the first and has worked flawlessly with my Sennheiser's.
