Sound of Electricity
« on: 8 Mar 2010, 05:10 am »
I just received my Icon HDP and connect it to my system (as below)

Notebook => USB => HDP => Analog Output => Icon => RJ45 => S1

However, I hear a very obvious sound of electricity comes from my S1 (really loud and clear) but if I remove HDP from the system, the annoying sound disappear.

Finally I found the reason. If I put my notebook's plug into the socket, the noise appears. I try to use a different socket, but it is useless. Is there anyone can tell me how to fix the problem? Really appreciated!!

Your notebook PSU is very noisy. I guess they are all connected to the same power strip?
Try connecting the notebook plug into another circuit from the wall but further away.
Or you can try using an AC power cord that has a build-in choke to reduce noise (we can sell you our standard AC power cord used in our high-end products for $15.

Dear Jason

Thank you for the suggestion. I think your openion is right and I have tried to connect the notebook plug into another further circuit but the situation is still the same. Now I am thinking to buy another AC adapter for my notebook. Moreover, how to buy the standard AC power cord for Icon or HDP you mentioned?

Typically the notebook PSU has an AC power cord that can be removed (one end goes to the power circuit and the other end goes into the PSU).  It looks like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-09482-Universal-Power/dp/B000067RWH/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1268222231&sr=8-1-fkmr0

But you can see that there is no choke on it.

Email to directsales@nuforce.com and mention that Jason said will give you a free power cord (with choke) but you pay $8 for shipping and handling. Normally such a cord would sell for $15 to $20 plus shipping. This offer is for you only so other people please don't nag me for free cord.  I am curious to find out if the power cord will reduce the noise. If it does, I think we should start selling it. It is hard to find such power cord on the market.  I have been told from a few customers that our power cord out performs some expensive cord costing $200.

Not all notebook PSUs use an IEC connector. Like this, for instance:

So make sure it will fit before spending the $8 for shipping.

Is there any hum if the notebook is powered by battery only (disconnect AC)?
