Cornet2 right channel no sound
« on: 18 Aug 2009, 12:03 pm »
Hi!
Finished the Cornet 2 last Saturday and fired it up on Sunday morning. Noticed immediately that the LED jumped from red to green within 2 seconds, supposed to be 20 seconds? The worst thing came after that, no sound came out from the right channel!
I measured the voltages on the measuring points and noticed that the voltages are way higher than the indicated voltages, some are 120v higher.
Jim thought faulty 12AX7's or wrongly placed resistor/s might've caused that. I run through the resistors, all seems to be in the right place. Also change the 12AX7's with another new ones and later with a working set from an Audio Research amp and swapped the Q200 left and right. But same results are measured. Today I changed the 12AU7 with a new Amperex Bugle Boy, still the same. I have no spare 5Y3, will get one tomorrow, if I have the time.
Any idea what might have caused this, could this be caused by a faulty 5Y3? But I measured same voltage between the left and right output of it. Any suggestion is most welcome, thanks in advance.

 Its a little hard to see in the pics,but check the primary leads of the transaformer,something does not look quite right(if 120V),this might explain the voltage issues.As far as the right channel not working,not sure.

For 120V

OO=dummy con.
LL=all blue and all black
SS=unused
NN=all brown and all white

Thanks Hotrod, but I have to apologise first for not mentioning that our line voltage is 220V.
The voltages measured on the left channel is a little lower than the written voltages on the measuring points and the sound from this channel is very good. But on the right channel the voltages are way higher than it should be and no sound, only very soft hum is audible.

Found the problem finally! Took the left channel resistor one by one and found R203 and R210 were the wrong values! I must made the mistake by automatically mirroring the resistor on both sides.
Will try it again tonight, hopefully both cahnnels will work this time.
Thanks anyway, guys,
