BP-1.5 PHONO STAGE Birthday Coming Up
« on: 25 Jul 2009, 01:25 pm »
It?s Birthday time coming up soon Nov 12 to be exact.
On My Wish list so far I have a Torus RM 20? Which is a done deal.
Thank God my wife loves Music that is a big plus as far as the spending goes.
I?m looking into the Bryston BP1.5 Phono Stage. And a New Turntable.
Last visit to Son Ideal Claude has a BP1.5 as well a Rega3 turntable???

Years ago I had a Thorens TD160MK  In mahogany reddish brown color.
I?m looking for a High end last purchase Turntable.
If I can get some help that would be much appreciated.
Suggestions, Brand, Model.

Pic?s would be great.

Thanks Robert

Has anyone seen a review on the BP 1.5 or has had a chance to compare it to other phono stages?

A dealer is advetising in this months Stereophile the VPI Classic with JPM 10.5i tonearm.  With the 10.5i that's a really good deal.

You don't need a review. It's the best. Trust me.

There is for the internal phono stages, but I don't believe there's one for the BP 1.5

Yes just read the reviews on the BP25 Phono versions and BP26 or the BP6 - they are all the same phono stage.

The only difference between the BP26MC phono stage and the BP1.5 is the BP 1.5 has internal gain settings that can be changed by moving jumpers inside the unit.  Gain levels are listed for both MM and MC on the website. If you're buying a BP26 and want moving coil and especially if you want just MM get the P (MM only) or MC model and save yourself $2000.00 or $1300.00 (USD) respectively if you don't mind not having the gain level adjustments.

True. However, the BP 1.5 also has adjustable capacitance for MM carts.

I have the MM stage in my BP6.  8)

Sorry Robert. Didn't mean to hijack your thread.
I have a ProJect 2Xperience with an Ortofon 2M Black MM and I find the combination a bit too thin. Together they have extended highs but the music almost seems fragile. In addition, the turntable has a motor in a cradle with a rubber band that transfers motion to the plinth. This rubber band vibrates and previously I could not detect any affect on the sonics (I'm a newbie, so maybe it was my untrained pair of ears). Recently, I took off the face plates off of my B&W 804S and I was really surprised. Whenever the rubber band started vibrating, the two woofer diaphragms would vibrate with fairlygood (scary) excusrsions. If I stopped the band from vibrating by lightly touching it, woofers would be fine. Now I could hear the effect of the vibrations and I wonder if the music seems fragile because the woofers cannot function properly driven wild by the ramble of the rubber.
So .... long story to say that without a subsonic filter, I would not recommend the ProJect turntables that have the same set-up as the 2Xperience (the majority of them).
The Oracle appears divine! Happy birthday.
