Launched today here at the Munich High End Show, this is the PMC fact-8, a slimline floorstanding speaker set to be the first in a new range from the British company.
The new model, which will sell for around ?4500 a pair, uses new hand-built 14cm mid/bass units with an extended version of the company's Advanced Transmission Line tuning system, plus a new 22mm Sonomex large surround tweeter with integral dispersion plate, specially designed for the new speakers.
The claimed frequency response is 28Hz-30kHz, and the speakers have 88dB/w/m sensitivity and 8ohm impedance.
In addition, there's 'fact control': rear panel switches allow +/-2dB adjustment of the treble, and -3dB or -6dB bass cut, making them easier to place in the room. A biwirable/biampable crossover is also used, with the terminals silver-plated.
The slimline cabinet, with a front baffle just 15.5cm wide, is designed for wide dispersion and excellent imaging, and the speakers sit on hand-polished chromed ingot outrigger feet, with a choice of spike or ball feet.
The enclosure is veneered inside and out, and comes in a choice of four finishes: Rich Walnut, Natural Oak, Tiger Ebony and Graphite Poplar. A grille is supplied, this fixing to the speakers using rare earth magnets and thus keeping the baffle 'clean'.
Further models are expected in the range in the very near future, with the use of standardised drivers across the line-up giving both visual and tonal matching.
Tag Line - Fact - n. A thing to be known with absolute certainty. Fact is a groundbreaking range of loudspeakers that provides just that. The unadulterated essence of the recording delivered by wholly elegant form.
For what I've heard in the UK, the new Fact 8 is indeed something special.. Around FB1i size and PB1i-EB1i big sound. New Transmission line loading, and beautiful cabinets and finishes.
